Pooh Shiesty’s “FDO” uses one of rap’s oldest comeback forms—the first-day-out record—to stage reentry as a test of identity. Released after three years in federal prison, the song does not cautiously update listeners on his life. It spends more than five minutes asserting that confinement has not softened the persona, damaged the flow, or transferred ownership of the “shiesty” name to anyone else. The result is both celebration and pressure document: freedom sounds exhilarating because every bar must prove he can resume a career interrupted at its ascent.
